This buzzy all-day restaurant occupies the ground floor of the Southwark outpost of The Hoxton hotel and serves a menu inspired by the flavours of the French and Italian Rivieras.
The interiors at Albie’s are smart but relaxed and aim to evoke a sunny holiday feeling with verdant foliage and wicker chairs. With the Riviera as inspiration, there are touches of glamour, too, thanks to a marble-streaked bar and chic light fixtures.
All-day Albie’s kicks off with a breakfast menu featuring dishes for the health conscious, such as acai bowls and smashed avocado on toast, alongside more indulgent early-morning fare including brioche French toast and a full English croissant stuffed with poached egg, sausage, black pudding, bacon, tomato and mushrooms.
The menu changes focus as the day goes on to comprise a concise selection of comfort food classics, which are split between sharing boards, pasta and main dishes. If you’re in the mood for carbs, opt for the silky crab linguine topped with chilli, garlic and parsley oil, while vegetarian diners can try the spinach and ricotta gnocchi.
More substantial dishes, meanwhile, include seabream with saffron rouille and samphire, or chargrilled bavette with fries and mushroom ketchup, while the puddings take in lemon tart and lavender crème brûlée.
Vegetarians and vegans are well taken care of too, with around half of the menu free of meat or animal products. What’s more, there’s a pocket-friendly wine list, with diners able to enjoy a glass of the house wine for only £5.75. If you’re skipping the vino, there’s a range of cocktails to choose from, while if you’re avoiding alcohol all together, there’s also a selection of non-alcoholic mocktails.
Albie’s is one of two restaurants at The Hoxton hotel’s Southwark location; the other is Seabird, a glamorous fish and seafood restaurant on the hotel’s rooftop which boasts impressive views of the City skyline.
