Fanhams Hall is a stunning Jacobean mansion located just outside of Ware, in Hertfordshire, boasting centuries of fascinating history balanced with contemporary decor and all the mod cons. With a mediaeval hall for events, a portfolio of handsome bedrooms, a selection of dining options and beautiful grounds spanning a wisteria walk and manicured gardens, it has to be seen to be believed.
It's a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion and something Fanhams Hall does particularly well is their afternoon high tea. Served throughout the afternoon every day, it's just the thing for an intimate hen do, treating a friend or celebrating Mother's Day.
The menu follows a traditional structure, starting with a selection of savoury bites with a gourmet twist. You can enjoy the likes of an egg and chive crème fraiche mini brioche roll, alongside gin-compressed cucumber and whipped goats cheese on rye bread, as well as smoked Scottish salmon with beetroot and dill cream cheese on brown bread. The kitchen team do their best to work with local suppliers and highlight quality produce from across the UK, for example, their Sussex ham sandwich which is topped with grain mustard mayonnaise and rocket on white bread.
No afternoon tea is complete without scones, and how does a lavender and vanilla blend alongside a traditional fruit scone sound? Even better when slathered with key lime curd, strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream, we think! As for sweet treats, dig into summer favourites like strawberry and mint Eton mess tart, alongside seasonal delights like raspberry crumble cake and pink rhubarb gateau with custard buttercream and pistachio genoise. Our personal favourite? We think the Espresso Martini macaroon sounds like heaven.
