Bellanger, the bustling Mediterranean-influenced restaurant and bar from The Wolseley Hospitality Group, is located in the heart of Islington Green. Nestled within a Victorian building, its naturally decadent setting paves the way for red booths, vintage theatre posters and gold art deco touches. The concept is inspired by the Grand Cafes of Europe and it shows, from the white table cloths to the shiny champagne coupes, Bellanger is brimming with relaxed elegance.
If looking for somewhere to host a special meal, be it a birthday or important client meeting, the team welcome you to book the restaurant's private dining room and add a special flourish to your ocassion. A stunning space, the walls are ornately adorned with wooden panelling which is decorated with window-style mirrors, creating a sort of, 'Paris at night' feel.
Tables are round and spaced throughout the room, complemented by large urns filled with trees and plants, as well as a chic corner seat in sage green. Across the seating is enough capacity for 46 people but if you'd prefer one central table simply speak to the staff about your ideas and they will do their best to accomodate.
While the menu nods to European cuisine in general, Head Chef Mauro Ferri has particularly leaned into his love for the Mediterranean, bringing Italian and Spanish flavours to the forefront. First, you could order a selection of snacks for the table such as Morcón Ibérico Chorizo and stuffed courgette flowers, before getting started on the small plates of carpaccio candy beetroot with caramelised walnuts and seared scallops with garlic and herb butter.
For mains, enjoy the likes of grilled Loch Duart salmon with crushed jersey royals and a watercress velouté, or perhaps a classic flat-iron steak with café de paris butter and french fries. Desserts sound heavenly taking the form of hot chocolate mousse with an apricot compote, as well as caramelised apple tart.
