Nestled inside the historic town walls opposite Caernarfon Castle, the Old Courthouse is a truly versatile venue that has played host to music performances, corporate conferences, private celebrations and even been used as a filming location. Built in 1863, this Grade I listed building was used as the city’s courthouse until 2009 before undergoing renovations in 2018 to become the multipurpose destination it is today. The stunning façade still retains all of its original architecture and features nods to its legal past throughout, creating a charming and unique backdrop for your event.
There are several spaces for hire within the Old Courthouse, suitable for a wide range of events. Perhaps the jewel in its crown is the Courthouse Theatre, a grand space with a 40 foot domed ceiling, exquisitely ornate plasterwork and a balcony with the original brass rail. There is a full-sized stage, grand piano, sound and lighting system, dance floor and flexible seating so you can host 100 guests cabaret style for a gala dinner, or 250 people concert style (with 50 seated in the gallery), perfect for a conference or performance.
Smaller events are better suited to the Bench Bistro, a light and airy space with a high glass ceiling, direct castle views, and a bar at one end, which has been repurposed from the original magistrate’s bench. Here, 50 guests can be seated for a meal or up to 60 can be hosted standing for a drink's reception and the like.
Catering is provided in-house and can be arranged to specifically suit your event. Casual options include light refreshments, a hot or cold buffet, or for more formal events there is a full a la carte dinner menu. The latter is per the bistro menu, a modern British affair that showcases the best of local produce and therefore changes frequently.
