While finding a venue for your event can be difficult, you'll be pleased to know that The Bell in Ticehurst makes things feel easy. Its concept has been immaculately thought out from start to finish, bringing together historic features and a contemporary attitude to create a public house, venue and bed and breakfast that ticks all the boxes on food, drinks, design and atmosphere.
The Bell's roots go all the way back to 1560 as a coaching inn and from the thick, wooden-beamed doorways and huge hearth, it's clear to see that the current owners respect where it's been. Now, though, its style has been updated with a gentleman's boudoir feel featuring top hat lamps hanging from the ceiling, artistically piled stacks of books and floral wallpaper.
But that's just the main restaurant, for events there's plenty of backdrops to choose from, all with unique sense of style. For example, The Big Room is the largest space and can host 90 people sitting or 120 standing. With woodland-inspired wall murals and a string of glittering chandeliers it's both grandiose and welcoming.
The refurbished stables offer a rustic, chic spot for smaller gatherings and drinks. This area has a private bar and seating area, so perfect for canapes, small bites and cocktails. While The Snug is a more relaxed again, with sofas and comfortable seating by the fire for a little get together.
Catering is provided in house courtesy of head chef Mark Charter and his team who is inspired by the changing seasons and serving up the best from Sussex-based suppliers. While there isn't an events menu readily available online, there are a selection of celebration-style menus including a five-course tasting menu paired with wines and bespoke cocktails which sounds delicious. Think dishes like our smoked prawn tartlet with sweetcorn fromage blanc, artichoke, yuzu and foraged herbs, alongside lamb with watercress puree, butternut squash fondant and Douglas Fir to get your imagination whirring.
