Those seeking an artistic, refined setting for their event or party should look no further than Ochre at The National Gallery. Located about as centrally as is possible, on the edge of Trafalgar Square, the gallery is world-famous as a hub of art and culture. In recent years, however, London’s gallery food scene has had a serious shake-up and Ochre is at the forefront of this. Celebrating the finest produce the country has to offer, as well as seasonality and provenance, the restaurant offers everything from casual brunch to late-night events with a DJ. Founders Charlotte and Sam Miller’s previous projects include the hugely popular Muriel’s Kitchen.
You and your guests can start off the evening with a drink at the glamorous bar, before moving on to the delicious food on offer here. Native oysters are a must, as are the punchy house-pickled vegetables and homemade bread with cultured sea salt butter. From there, small plates will keep the party going with options like organic confit chicken wings with blue cheese sauce, burrata with pickled oyster mushroom or saddleback pork and Westcombe cheddar croquette with wild nettle pesto and aged parmesan.
Larger plates expand the palate further, thanks to entries like English mussels with Cornish cider and creme fraiche, 12-hour confit pork belly with celeriac puree and pan-fried monkfish with charred hispi cabbage. Veggies can delight in options like the saffron fettuccine, which comes with Indian spiced ricotta, mint pesto, pickled shallot, aged parmesan and crispy chilli or the signature charred cauliflower with chanterelle mushrooms, cauliflower puree and capers. A side of potatoes at Ochre can take one of three forms: chips, confit or dauphinoise.
