Carlowrie Castle, which was built back in 1852, was the project of an Edinburgh based wine merchant and Provost of Leith, Thomas Hutchinson. Hutchinson enlisted the expertise of a well known Scottish architect, David Rhind, to create a magnificent countryside castle. Unfortunately, Thomas passed away before he was able to see the completion of his vision. Yet, his legacy was carried on by his son, who decked the castle with the Hutchinson coat of arms above its front door. Another descendant, Isobel Wylie Hutchinson, lived at the castle, and was a lady with a captivating history that is still traceable throughout the Carlowrie Estate. These days, the castle is a very popular wedding venue, and also hosts plenty of other events.
