Carlowrie Castle was built back in 1852 after being dreamt up by an Edinburgh based wine merchant and Provost of Leith, Thomas Hutchinson. With the help of a famous Scottish architect, David Rhind, Hutchinson planned to build a stunning countryside castle. Although Thomas passed away before the castle was finished, his dreams and legacy lived on through his son, who made sure that the castle paid homage to his father with the Hutchinson coat of arms above its front door. Isobel Wylie Hutchinson is another descendant who lived at the castle, and was somebody who had a captivating life that is still traceable throughout the Carlowrie Estate. Come Christmastime, Carlowrie Castle comes to live with beautiful decorations, excellent event options, and a really jolly feel.
