With outposts spreading across the country, Zizzi works to a winning formula. Handsome interiors vary according to the location, from raven-inspired artworks at the Tower of London outpost, to rustic wood-fired pizza ovens at the Notting Hill branch. Farmhouse chic is the constant theme, as is homely Italian cooking. This might mean plump arancini (risotto balls) to start, or toasted garlic bruschetta topped with fresh tomatoes, basil, red onion & a drizzle of olive oil. Pasta, risotto & secondi play it straight (seafood linguine or pan-fried chicken with pesto, say), but pizzas get the ultimate vote with their thin crusts & generous toppings. Go classic with primavera & fiorentina, or try one of the folded calzone versions stuffed with mixed vegetables, goats’ cheese & Grana Padano, say. Reasonable prices & decent helpings are a plus, but slow service can let the side down at peak times.
