This high-end Japanese (housed in luxury development 190 Strand) is the first sibling of the Paris restaurant of the same name, which opened in Saint-Germain back in 2000. Yen specialises in made-on-site soba noodles, offering a hot or cold option – we chose the hot, which combined velvety noodles with a warming, hearty broth. There’s more to Yen than noodles, though, from a seven-course tasting menu to an à la carte. Good calls include mixed tempura featuring puffy-battered aubergine and crispy prawns, delicate sushi rolls filled with the likes of tuna and mackerel and with just the right hit of wasabi, and flaky black cod marinated in Saikyo miso. Nothing out of the ordinary, then, and desserts are limited too, with Wagashi, fruit salad and sorbets on offer. An extensive saké collection impresses more, as do the sweet staff.
