SquareMeal Review of Bar Salsa Temple

Bronze Award

A turbocharged take on the Charing Cross Road original, this offshoot of Bar Salsa replaces the same owners’ vast Walkabout site on Victoria Embankment. Garish graphics, fake palms, straw sombreros and funky fiesta grooves create a riot of Rio Carnival kitsch, so bag a booth overlooking the action or hole up in the quieter gallery bar and separate cantina off the frenetic main hall. Fruity Caipirinhas, Mojitos and disco drinks appear on an affordable list of rummy rinses, punches, pitchers and tropi-cool cocktails such as house signature São Paulo Rude Boy – a garish cachaça, banana liqueur and blue Curacao sling. Otherwise, order Latino beers and easy-drinking Spanish/South American wines with tapas (nachos, gambas pil-pil, chicken taquitos) or trade up to Tex-Mex burgers, pork hock feijoada, quesadillas, steaks and salads served in tortilla baskets. Shake off that lot Ricky Martin-style on a dance floor that throbs until ‘las wee small horas’!

Terrible experience- Very aggressive people

Terrible experience- TripAdvisor has less fake 5* reviews.

We attended Salsa Temple for NYE and found that the evening was disorganized, run by a staff that seemed unaware of their duties, had a heavy handed and rude security team, and a manager (gold jacket) that clearly had no sincere interest in the actual guest experience.

We attended as a group of 6 and we are not able to sit together because we made 3 bookings of 2 (despite asking several times over email, and when we collected the packs, we were told that this would be okay for us). For no logical reason, and without explanation, we were not allowed to swap table or sit near each other as the seats were assigned. The manager gave us some free prosecco to make up for this (which was appreciated), but it would have been nice to sit with our friends on NYE.

Just before midnight we went outside to view the fireworks (best part of the night) and then proceeded to rerun to the venue. There was no queue system in place and the door staff just opened the doors, and did not let people in, this caused the crowd to rush forwards, push and crush each other.

This was dangerous, and the management should have had control of the situation (especially following the deaths at the O2 the previous week from the crush of the crowd).

Once back inside I told the manager (loudly and not in a happy way, but with no violence or threat) that it was shameful that he and his staff were putting people in danger and that he should do something before somebody was killed. He decided to have the security forcefully remove me from the building for this complaint. He also threw out several other people for complaining about this situation.

We joined the end of a new queue and returned inside to finish our drinks and leave, 1*.

Once outside we were asked by some passers by what the venue was like and if they should go inside, we told them not to because of the bad experience that we had, and the door staff overheard this, and they threatened us with violence and swore at us.

I have read many of the reviews for Salsa Temple and it appears that many 5* reviews are coerced from customers by the staff at the venue (“5* Frank was the best” & “5* Angelica was the best” are reviews that are very common). Many of the accounts posting 5* reviews only have 1 review in total to their name and it is for Salsa Temple for 5*. I note that a couple of reviews claim that the bar is charging GBP 5 entry, or free if you post a 5* review.

If you take the time to read the actual genuine reviews of Salsa, you’ll find that many people complain about the rude staff, the incompetent management, and the heavy-handed security. It seems that in many past instances people have complained about the services or unjustified decision making of the management and been forcefully removed. If you complain, you will be made to leave.

Do not go to Salsa Temple, go to a venue where the staff care about their customers.

Amazing club, great food and a one of a kind experience

Amazing venue with classes and great options for food and drink. Set menus on weekends are great and make it so much easier on weekends when booking for big groups. Saves so much money when ordering for 20 people. Service was a little slow, but there was easily 500 people inside when we sat down to eat on Saturday, so that's understandable.

Also, Ive never seen so many talented dancers! Thank you guys for an amazing night! Will be back soon.

Security team abuse of power

PLEASE READ BELOW. I am writing to complain about the ABUSE OF POWER by your Security Team. My complaint is that they failed to provide me with a satisfactory service. My sister booked a table for 10 people for her 30th birthday on 12th Mach 2022. We arrived at the venue around 21:00. Around 00:30-1 am, two of our friends went outside to smoke and left the venue by mistake since it was their first time visiting Salsa. The security team refused to let them back in. When this happened, my girlfriend was informed of the situation and asked me to speak to the security team when this occurred. I immediately went out to speak to my friends and the security team. The HEAD OF SECURITY was being very rude and aggressive towards them for no reason. When I tried to speak with him politely, I asked him if there was anything I could do to let my friends back in again. Unfortunately, he put his hand in my elbow training to put me aside. I asked very politely not to touch me, since that was not comfortable for me. I believe he didn’t like the fact I said that to him and he immediately push me out by force. My friend got very frustrated with the head of security because of the way he pushed me out. when I asked why he took me out he failed to give me an explanation and just said to me that I refuse to move out of the way. The rest of the security team was very shocked with his actions towards me especially because I was not under the influence of alcohol I understand how challenging their job can be at times when dealing with people under the influence of alcohol, but we are all people and deserves RESPECT AND EQUALITY WE LATIN PEOPLE ! TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT AND DON'T DESERVE TO BE ABUSE THIS WAY. I AM SURE THERE ARE BETTER PLACES TO VISIT. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE. SO SAD AND DISSAPPOINTED

If I could rate this venue less than 1 Star, I would.

The most terrible place I've ever visited in London.

Let me tell you bit more details:
After entering the venue at 7 pm before the paid entry, having a dinner and some classes and spending around £100 in total in more than 3 hours, two of my friends were leaving and I was going to stay for some social dancing.
I wanted to walk my friends to the tube station and immediately come back (the tube station is literally 3 minutes away from the bar).
I was refused to leave and enter back for free, despite already being inside the venue for more than 3 hours.
I was also refused to get a stamp or any other indication of the fact that I had already been in.
When we asked to refer us to some policy ‘for conditions to enter' - the guard wasn’t able to comment and expressed quite aggressive behavior.
In addition I'm taking to your attention that the venue failed to provide us all receipts for food and drinks and for dancing classes.
Receipts have been requested on the day of our attendance but none have been provided by the venue staff. This venue did not provide any receipts or conformation of sale: neither for food and drink nor for paid classes and entrance fee.

Next day we submitted the complaint via SALSA TEMPLE internet website for all above. They refused to provide us T&C for their conditions to enter policy and its legal grounds.
Additionally, I received threat of an exclusion from both venues in the future for posting negative feedback in the social media.

If I could rate this venue less than 1 Star, I would.

Fun place for an evening out with friends or colleagues
I tried this on a Thursday evening as they have individual and group lessons available from Latin Krazy on Thursdays. Also happy hour from 5-8pm! We had drinks and food before the beginners' lesson began at 7.30pm, and the food was good, although it did take a long time to arrive. There is quite a selection of Mexican and Spanish food, tacos, nachos, tapas and even burgers! Something for everyone but the gourmet... A fun evening out in a great place.
