Located in the Grade II-listed Edwardian Old Westminster Fire Station, Yaatra is a fine dining restaurant showcasing the finest dishes and flavours from the different regions of India. The building, built in 1906, boasts a striking red brick façade, and inside the elegant dining room features colourful walls, soft lighting and velvet seating. This is a must-visit if you enjoy classic Indian food with a refined spin.
Head chef Amit Bagyal has curated the menus at Yaatra to offer diners a variation of flavours, textures and spice levels, taking authentic tastes and elevating them with contemporary techniques. The a la carte menu features several tasty starters, all of which you are unlikely to find in your run-of-the-mill curry house. For main course, opt for something from the grill and clay oven like the tiger prawns with turmeric and lemon rice with Malabar sauce, or try a dish from the chef’s classics list like Garhwal goat osso buco with ginger turmeric sauce and caramelised onion, a recipe from chef Bagyal’s grandmother. Finish the meal with a traditional dessert like Gulab Jamun: a homemade fried milk dumpling soaked in saffron flavoured syrup with pistachio crumble. For special occasions, diners are encouraged to try the eight-course tasting menu to experience a true journey through the flavours of India. There is also a vegetarian tasting menu, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options throughout the a la carte menu, so dietary requirements are not a problem.
To accompany your meal, there is an extensive global wine list with a few available by the glass, and a lengthy bottle list ranging in price. There is also plenty of Champagne on offer and magnums, great for special occasions and big groups. For the cocktail lovers amongst you, there are several enticing signature drinks, as well as a gin trolley serving limited edition gin and tonics.
