Shanghai Noir is a luxurious, East Asian dining experience in the heart of London's Westminster. Inspired by the Shanghai of 1930s, its concept, decor and menu looks to a time when this Chinese city was known as the 'Paris of Asia' thanks to its glitzy restaurants, reinterpretation of Art Deco design and an underground world of gangsters and showgirls.
Indeed, Shanghai Noir lifts the veil on this iconic era with amazing decor, an immersive vibe and an Indo-Chinese menu. Speaking of which, the a la carte menu is brimming with delicious dishes to try, starting with 'Oriental snacks' like prawn and seaweed crackers alongside pickled chilli cucumber. Next up, it's time for some starters such as slow cooked duck leg with cucumber, spring onion and hoisin sauce, wrapped in Chinese pancakes, as well as seared scallops with black bean sauce and Devil's chicken lollipop.
When it comes to mains, we like the idea of choosing from chef's selection, a section that boasts the likes of Jaggery miso glazed short rib with peanut podi, garlic pak choy stew and jasmine rice, finished with gold leaf. Dumplings are also a must-try here, with fillings such as lamb, chicken or vegetables. While, the Shanghai noodles sound delicious, such as organic buckwheat soba noodles with catch of the day fish from the boat with mussels, squid, octopus and red seafood broth.
Finally, you need to get a load of the desserts selection, which spans the signature Coconut Lychee Pannacotta with Pandan leaf infused coconut pudding, lychee cream, fresh lychee and tapioca pearls, served within a dramatic dry ice bath. As well as food, Shanghai Noir is really big of cocktails, with a 'sinfully indulgent' list full of options like Shanghai Noir Firecracker served smoking in the Assassin‘s Tea Pot, with Szechuan pepper infused gin, Campari, vermouth, orange bitters, mango and soda.
