Set within the brick-lined Truman Brewery complex, the Vibe Bar’s cobbled courtyard is where students, off-duty clothing-rail scourers & the too-chillaxed-to-shop posse descend – especially in September, when the venue’s four rooms host the eclectic Brick Lane Music Festival. Inside, the scuffed main bar is ‘more shabby than chic’, with its weathered sofas, mismatched café furniture & cartoon murals. Drinking generally means strong lager (Hoegaarden & Staropramen), bargain wines & cheap-as-you-like cocktails with familiar names. Food runs to slices of pizza (from £3), weekend Caribbean barbecues & ‘six for £8’ bites – sweet chilli prawns, ribs, mini Thai fishcakes, baby Cumberland sausages & tirimisu [sic]. Be warned: the live bands are invariably ‘loud’, & token door charges may apply.
