An all-day eatery that segues from cakes to cocktails? Count us in. Especially when the venue in question is as stylishly kitted out as Urban Tea Rooms. For this second venture, the join-the-dots decor of the Kingly Street branch (subway tiling, bare bulbs and counter seating) has been upgraded to a smart gold-and-black geometric minimalism that fits with St James’s polished environs. During the day, the menu runs from breakfasts such as scrambled egg and avocado on brioche washed down with one of many loose-leaf teas, through sandwich and salad lunch options to premium coffee and cake (made at Urban Tea Rooms’ bakery). At night, when the lights are dimmed and the candles lit, traditional tapas made with British produce are an excellent foil to one of the many tea-based cocktails on the list (including an Earl Grey and blood orange ‘G&Tea’). A good all-round pit stop for busy office types.
