Jumak39 is a Korean and Japanese restaurant in central London, incorporating a ground floor casual restaurant as well as a basement 'pocha' (a Korean pub). You'll find the restaurant on Panton Street, close to Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus stations.
Jumak39's lofty ceilings and large window opening onto the street help the space to feel bright and spacious, and there's plenty of room inside. The restaurant's awning allows for a few al fresco tables on the street also, and the restaurant sometimes puts up a little marquee outside as well. Head down the stairs into the basement and you'll find Jumak39's 'pocha' or Korean pub, which is more of a drinking den that serves bar snacks and street food. This area is moodier and a little more industrial, with gentle multicoloured lighting and neon signs on the walls.
The menu is packed full of classic Korean and Japanese dishes, with mains of udon noodles, topped with spicy seafood combinations or mixtures of pork and kimchi. Sushi fans will love set boxes filled with salmon, tuna, sashimi and nigiri, while bento boxes are an easy pick for those who don't know what to go for, with themes like chicken katsu and tofu teriyaki.
If you fancy a little bit of everything to share with the table, choose some smaller plates to share, like prawn tempura, yakitori, seaweed and cucumber, and kimchi. Personally, we love the sound of the Korean BBQ which starts every day at 5pm and gives diners the chance to try grilled dishes in a way they might never have experienced before. Get a load of wagyu, oree breast and beef brisket, complemented with fresh sides like lettuce, chilli and sliced garlic, for a bit of a kick.
Drinks wise, you can count on these guys to serve up a well curated selection of soju, plum wine, sake and Japanese and Korean beers, perfect for enjoying at the BBQ!
