Fans of Italian restaurant Trullo will be delighted to know it’s launched its very first wine bar next door, where it serves a specially created wine list served alongside a selection of antipasti. Taking over what used to be the restaurant’s shop, Trullo’s wine bar offers an intimate and relaced space for guests to unwind in a more casual setting.
Chef owner Conor Gadd and his team have curated an ever-changing wine list which guests can order by the glass or bottle, and focuses on international varieties from further outside of Italy. The selection showcases some of Europe's best grapes and producers, both old and new, from Slovenia to Spain. This might include the likes of Marof Breg White (2018), a skin contact wine which blends native Slovenian and more traditional grapes, alongside bright and juicy reds, orange and pink wines and French sparkling.
Served alongside the wine list is an antipasti menu which, like the restaurant, leans heavily on top-quality produce sourced from trusted suppliers, including Maldon oysters and handpicked Devon crab. Examples include pig’s ear fritti with anchovy, focaccia with olive oil, chicken liver crostini and cheese and crackers. There is a concise cocktail list too, which includes Italian classics like a Negroni Spagliato.
The interiors have been designed by Day Studio (Lisa Helmanis), who designed the original restaurant back in 2010. With a nod to its long-storied history, photos of staff members past and present adorn the walls, along with some of Lisa’s own artwork. Velvet banquettes accommodate larger groups, whilst window counter seating along with seats at the bar provide the perfect opportunity for couples and individuals to unwind after a long day, or for diners to stop by for an early drink before heading next door to the restaurant.
The Trullo Bar is open to the public for walk-ins.
