‘Trading in all things flavoursome’, according to the blurb, this bright indie café takes its name from the old trade route that once ran from the Docks to the City. Stripped-back interiors, exposed copper piping and functional furniture set the tone, while an open food counter displays all manner of salads, cakes and provisions. Deli-style sandwiches made with locally baked artisan bread are the speciality, with fillings ranging from a three-cheese version with chilli jam or tuna melt to a classic Reuben stuffed with home-cured pastrami from Trade’s own smokery. The all-day menu also pulls in everything from breakfast porridge and pancakes to chicken soup with matzo balls or smashed avocado on toasted sourdough with Feta, mint and lemon. ‘Farmer-sourced’ coffee is the drink of choice, but you can also get various juices, teas and hot chocolate.
