Tonkotsu is one of the capital’s most popular ramen restaurant chains and the brand has grown once again, popping up in Kentish Town with another casual and affordable site.
Since launching the original Tonkotsu a decade ago, the restaurant has gone on to open sibling sites in a handful of London locations, including Battersea, Notting Hill, Bankside, Ealing,
and Hackney, as well as one out of London site in Brighton. This Kentish Town outpost is the first North London site for the brand and much like its siblings, features casual interiors and a menu revolving around ramen.
Here, noodles are made in-house daily, using hi-tech noodle machines which have been imported from Tokyo. On the menu, you can expect to find the signature Tonkotsu ramen, which consists of a pork and lardo broth mixed in with thin-cut noodles and crowned with toppings of roast pork belly, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, spring onions, burnt garlic oil and a seasoned egg. Alternatively, tuck into the chilli chicken ramen: a chicken and sea salt broth finished off with Tonkotsu’s own brand chilli oil.
Elsewhere on the menu, you can find smaller dishes and snacks such as gyoza stuffed with pork, ginger and garlic, fried chicken karaage and chilli chicken wings. Vegan diners haven’t been forgotten about either, as those following a plant-based diet can try a dedicated vegan mushroom and miso ramen or tuck into chilli cauliflower wings, imitating chicken. There are plenty of bargains to be had too, including a set lunch deal for under a tenner.
To help you wash it all down, Tonkotsu Kentish Town offers its own brand of sake, alongside Japanese whiskies, wines, cocktails and pale ales. In a rush? You can find Tonkotsu Kentish Town on Deliveroo and the restaurant offers a click and collect service too.
