Just a few miles from Oban, overlooking the Clachan Bridge – or the ‘Bridge over the Atlantic’ – you’ll find Tigh an Truish. The inn, bar, and restaurant was opened shortly after the UK’s Covid-19 national lockdowns, and since then it has flourished.
Open five days a week, with accommodation and lunch Wednesday to Sunday, and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, the venue is a charming, family-friendly spot to stay the night, or simply to dine and sample its food.
Head chef William Rocks, a contestant in 2022’s Masterchef: The Professionals, has devised a menu of refined British classics to serve up to diners in the venue’s restaurant. The menu at Tigh an Truish isn’t fixed, but past examples have seen a range of enticing dishes take a spot. To start with, you might find a hot smoked salmon crumpet with devilled Hollandaise and balsamic, or a ham Hough bonbon with Piccalilli puree and herb oil. Moving on to mains, plates are no less carefully put together. There’s a brown butter North Sea skate wing, with Champagne, chorizo sauce, tender stem broccoli, and truffled potatoes, or a roasted hispi cabbage with carrot puree and Sichuan pepper oyster mushrooms. These are classic flavours, put together in exciting and delicious combinations.
If you’re craving something sweet to end on after your meal, you might opt for a classic sticky toffee pudding, but there’s also the chance to push the boat out a little with the likes of a lavender cremaux with meringue and sweet pickled rhubarb.
The food at Tigh an Truish isn’t just your classic pub grub. It’s refined, decadent, and unique.
If you’re looking for somewhere to dine for a special event, Tigh an Truish also puts on special menus and activities for Halloween, Bonfire Night, and Christmas, so you can have all your special event bases covered!
