This local favourite in the Worcester area does a roaring trade in takeaways on most evenings, but if you find yourself in Upton-Upon-Severn, do stop in for a visit. The restaurant is rather smart inside with it's polished wood floors, black lacquer tabletops and assortment of trinkets and knick-knacks on the shelves and walls.
Thrishna is an authentic Bangladeshi and Indian restaurant that has developed a fantastic reputation among locals. As a result, it's worth booking by phone, or ordering well in advance as the restaurant gets very busy at peak hours. Once you've nabbed a table, it's worth coming with some idea of what you want because the sheer size of the menu is quite overwhelming. There are pages and pages of starters, and that's before you get into the main courses - tikka main courses, house specialities, exotic fish, baltis, biryanis and traditional dishes, all to choose from. With naan breads alone you have 14 possible choices - including your classic garlic, peshwari and keema, but also a variety of special naans, chilli and coriander, onion, and cheese.
The menu also offers every curry under the sun from korma and pasanda to dhansak, dopiaza and a spicy vindaloo, as well as speciality dishes from all over India and Bangladeshi, and tandoori dishes cooked in the clay oven, including half a tandoori chicken, tandoori king prawns and and lamb chops.
For those who don't want to be overwhelmed by options, Thrishna also has a set eat-in menu that includes poopadums and pickles, pakoras, samosas and kebabs to start, and then traditional Bangladeshi-style curries, followed by a gulab jamun for dessert. Thrishna sources produce locally whenever possible.
