If you’re planning something special and an average ‘dinner on dry land’ just won’t do, allow The Windsor Maidenhead Boat Company to offer an out-of-the-ordinary alternative. Meet, The Georgian, a 30-metre cruiser floating on the Thames in West Berkshire, ready to take you on a charming ride up the river. She has a smart exterior of red, white and navy, complemented inside with traditional wooden furnishings and bar. A row of sweet windows down either side ensures the intimate dining room is bright and light, and if the warm is weather there’s plenty of room to stand out on deck with a drink, too.
The Georgian runs a number of daily cruises through April to December, taking guests on a two-hour trip upriver to Boulters Lock, under Maidenhead Bridge and then a sail by the opulent homes of Millionaires Row. The lunch time cruise starts at 11.30am, while the evening sitting starts at 6pm, both serving a three-course menu which changes monthly. There’s three options for each course, including examples such as pan-fried halloumi and green salad to start, roast duck breast with braised savoury cabbage and red current jus for mains and Nutella cheesecake for dessert.
Or, indulge in the classically British pastime of afternoon tea and enjoy a couple of hours on the water, nibbling on traditional finger sandwiches, fruit scones and a mix of desserts. The final option, and could be described as the most fun, is the pudding cruise! Pudding cruises are set at £24.95 per person and include a glorious mix of five deserts, enough to satisfy any sweet craving. What more could you ask for? All dining cruises should be booked in advance and can also be gifted as a thoughtful present.
