In the beautiful and historic village of Bray in Berkshire the Monkey Island Estate lies on an island – one that has been visited by artists, monarchs, writers and others of notable mention. Now a very famous hotel, events venue and restaurant, Monkey Island Estate is spread across two Grade I listed heritage pavilions, which are decorated in a timeless, countryside style that feels traditional and welcoming. The restaurant offers a range of modern takes on British classics, and often uses produce that is freshly sourced from the estate's gardens and the surrounding countryside. There are several spaces within the hotel where you can dine, including the main dining room and terrace that has gorgeous views across the River Thames.
Starters include a punchy gazpacho with ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, red peppers and herb with a refreshing watermelon granite, a decadent dish of mushroom duxelles in flaky puff pastry with golden quail eggs, and beef fillet paired with creamy tuna mayo and adorned with cherry tomatoes and caperberries. From the main menu try the tender cauliflower steak that has been coated in a romesco sauce and drizzled with parsley oil and crunchy hazelnuts or the indulgent risotto with saffron, parmesan and butter, tossed with courgette and mushrooms. Other dishes include the flaky cod and juicy mussels on a bed of creamy cannellini bean puree, and a succulent duck breast with potatoes, courgettes and crunchy pak choi.
