Drawing inspiration from their journeys, the team at The Touring Club have created a lively yet unfussy bar that offers a thoughtfully curated selection of beers, wines, and food. The founders, Dylan Griffith, Rowan Hobbs, Grant Maunder, and Bryn Williams, bring together their expertise in brand identity, construction, design hotels, and hospitality, and the result is a beautiful space that is both vibrant and intimate. With an open kitchen and a wood burner, The Touring Club takes inspiration from the legendary Touring Club Hotel in Trelew, Patagonia — a renowned hostel and watering hole that the team behind this Penarth joint have visited. Open from Wednesday through to Sunday, The Touring Club in Penarth warmly welcomes guests to experience its unique charm.
At breakfast time, enjoy some Ty Melin pastries with jam and butter, a frangipane tart with cream, or some miso roasted mushrooms with tahini yoghurt on toasted sourdough. Or, perhaps order the smoked salmon with dill, a soft boiled egg and goats curd on toasted sourdough. For lunch and dinner, try the warm chorizo with mustard mayo or Spanish fried broad beans to begin. Then, perhaps you'll order the sea bream with white beans and salsa verde, or cured Welsh pork with buffalo mozzarella, almonds and shaved brussel sprouts. Maybe you'll opt for the roast squash with goats curd and pickled walnuts, or the braised beef cheek with celeriac and horseradish instead. Don't miss pudding, and try the cheese paired with pear chutney and bara brith or a classic tiramisu.
If you like what you've tried, you can buy products from the kitchen, too. Perhaps you'll want to take home some honey, raspberry and lime jam, pear chutney, lemon curd, salad dressing or sos coch (tomato ketchup).
