About

This subterranean tavern is known for its awesome cocktails and super-cool surroundings. Whether you’re looking for a quiet spot for a cosy catch-up, a late-night spot for snacks and drinks or a highly-rated tasting workshop, The Tippling House has it all.

An abundance of wood, from the floors to the panelled ceiling, comes together with ceiling lamps and cosy booth seating to create a convivial yet stylish space in which to sample boutique spirits, hand-crafted cocktails, fine Scottish ales and inspired small plates. You’ll find the bartenders both skilled and knowledgeable, the waiting staff charming and attentive, and the food and drink top-notch on account of its careful sourcing. The owners here have put a lot of thought into product selection, using local suppliers and produce wherever possible, so you can rest assured that your eco-credentials are still intact as you drink and nibble.

As the name would suggest, this bar is big on innovative drinks so expect some interesting mix-ups, or ask the bartender to create something bespoke for you – they’re always happy to oblige. Currently, you’ll find sips including ‘Summer Thyme Sadness’ (Jindea Single Estate Tea gin, Italicus, Champagne, thyme syrup, orange bitters and lemon), and ‘Cucucachoo’ (Hendrick’s gin, cre`me de peche, cucumber syrup, chilli tincture, watermelon and lime), though the menu changes according to what’s in season, and what the team feel like making. The bar also stocks an impressive selection of whiskies (“the water of life”), along with beers, wines, ciders and plenty of gins. These change every two to three months, meaning regulars can branch out throughout the year.

Food-wise, you can expect small plates such as faux pho (kombu dashi, tofu, vegan noodles and scallion), Special K fried popcorn chicken with sriracha mayo, and black pudding Scotch egg with fruit chutney, though again, the menu changes with the seasons.
