Two minutes from Cheltenham’s Promenade and main shopping district, this former gastropub was given a makeover in 2012 and re-styled by the owner as a craft ale bar offering a riot of New York
diner-style food and international favourites – albeit using top-drawer local Cotswold produce. Breakfasts of rösti with bacon and fried egg or pancakes with blueberries and crème fraîche give way
to Spam fritters, burgers and sliders, hot dogs, sticky chicken wings, macaroni cheese and eclectic salads (aubergine with pomegranate and saffron yoghurt, say), as well as specials such as seafood
laksa, rabbit with pappardelle or rose veal with ceps, garlic and parsley. Children have their own appealing menu offering perhaps salmon with peas or a mini roast on Sundays, all washed down with
organic strawberry lemonade or a frothy babycino.
