In the county town of Hertfordshire you'll find the quintessential Salisbury Arms Bar & Restaurant. If you're looking for an old world pub, you've found it. Here, you'll walk into mottled leather, beams, wooden panelling, open fires, and be transported back to the Golden Ages. This 650 year old building has certainly kept its charm. The building was purchased from Lord Salisbury back in 1891, and has been a hotel and restaurant ever since.
Nibbles are always a good idea for the table, and we’d order the warm sourdough bread with whipped parsley butter, tarragon and chervil oils and Maldon sea salt, or the salt and pepper cashews with cracked black pepper. Starters include the butternut and Yorkshire blue toast with toasted walnuts, sage leaves and red amaranth, along with the venison and caramelised onion terrine with cornichons, pickled red onions, lilliput capers and warm sourdough bread. For your main, why not order the Corn fed chicken and mushroom ballotine with smoked streaky bacon, smashed baby potato, tenderstem broccoli and wholegrain mustard cream sauce, or the classic British blade of beef and McCullen’s ale pie made with shortcrust pastry and served with creamy mash, buttered greens and red wine gravy.
We love the tasty sounding desserts, including the blueberry bakewell tart made with a white chocolate coating, Limoncello, red berry coulis and mint, along with the baked Alaska with raspberry syrup, fresh berries and Devonshire clotted cream ice cream. The warm, baked apple is served with a cinnamon coating, toasted oat crumble and vanilla custard, whilst the honeycomb chocolate brownie is a sweet tooth’s dream — served with salted caramel sauce, a brandy snap, honeycomb ice cream and smashed honeycomb pieces.
