Whether you’re a local keen to make the most of your hometown, or you're one of the many tourists visiting Bath’s beautiful golden-toned streets, The Bird is a great place for a night away, an afternoon tea, lunch, or an evening meal. This boutique hotel and restaurant has a prime location nestled in a quiet, residential area, with views that look out to Bath Abbey and only a short walk to the city centre.
While the decor has been thoughtfully curated with an artistic flair, the building itself is also something to behold. This large Victorian villa has plenty of period details to be admired including arched windows which flood light into the space, pretty balconies studding the entrance and, of course, a typically light-coloured stone facade. The interior design concept is colourful, playful and full of personality. It starts as you enter the reception with patchwork furniture, a gallery wall of framed birds and an ornate, mosaic front desk.
Walk into the hotel’s restaurant, PLATE, and rich colours warm up the space with a mix of red and orange velvet seating for a cosy, boutique feel. The illuminated statement bar bears illustrations reminiscent of Roman mythology and with textured lighting above, it makes for an atmospheric place to enjoy a cocktail before your meal.
PLATE touts itself as a foodie haven and is passionate about using local ingredients and from fisherman to farmers, the team works with suppliers in the region to create the best quality dishes. The menu has a global feel and changes constantly but sample menus are available to give you a taste of what’s come. The bar menu doesn’t take itself too seriously and offers experimental mixes, themeing drinks to different birds. The Dodo, for example, mixes malt and chocolate, while the Toucan is comprised of pineapple, passionfruit, lemon and vanilla.
