The Remedy in Hebden Bridge is a wine bar that has brought a new drinking and dining concept to this small corner of West Yorkshire.
Local businessman John spotted a gap in the market for high quality drinks served at reasonable prices and opened his answer to the problem – The Remedy – in October 2019. Serving as a wine shop with a difference, this new bar allows customers to buy bottles to takeaway or the easy-going staff will serve chosen wines in the cosy, relaxed space for you to enjoy there and then for a small corkage fee. With 300 wines on offer this is a real oenophile’s dream, where the bottles are lined up floor to ceiling across much of the wall space to create a look (if a little scaled down) not dissimilar to London’s infamous Circolo Popolare restaurant.
For those in search of an education there are tasting flights on the menu which showcase some of the 20-or-so chosen house wines on offer that week (these change regularly). Staff are knowledgeable and lead all tastings, while all the bottles come complete with tags which dissect in detail things like tasting notes, suggested food pairings and reviews, among other things. Come Mondays The Remedy offers up a ‘Make it Large’ deal where punters pay for a small serve but receive a large, and on Thursdays there is £5 off all bubbles. Prices start at £3.50 for a glass of wine if enjoyed at the bar and £40 for a bottle to take away.
To compliment the drinks offering there is a small food menu. Guests are invited to build their own charcuterie boards from a selection of snacks which include cheese, cured meats and olives as well as dips like humus, which have all been carefully sourced by John and his team.
In keeping with its semi-rural surrounds, The Remedy welcomes fury friends – allowing for well-behaved dogs in the space, and its spot on the central square coupled with its glass front allows for relaxed people watching.
