In Climping, a sleepy rural beachy village in West Sussex, you’ll find picturesque The Oystercatcher. A warm country style pub with charming wooden beams, quaint beer garden and leather Chesterfields, The Oystercatcher is part of the Vintage Inns chain, known for serving up hearty dishes and cask ales.
The Oystercatcher restaurant is rich in history, like most Vintage Inns joints. Built on the site of a private house that was occupied by a Middle Eastern family who left at the start of the Gulf War in 1992, The Oystercatcher was derelict for years before being turned into the restaurant it is today. Available Monday through to Saturday, The Oystercatcher’s all day menu includes seasonal favourites using local produce, such as fresh king prawn and crab linguine, Eton mess and sticky duck and hoisin pizza. For those looking for pub classics, you’ll always find these on the menu.
Firm favourites of hunter's chicken, beef lasagne, beer battered fish and chips and a homemade pie of the day are amongst the staples. A fixed price lunch is available Monday through to Thursday, and includes a hearty nourish bowl of grains, roasted vegetables and pineapple, rich beef and red wine lasagne, and steak frites. Puddings are not to be skipped, including beloved British classics like sticky toffee pudding and Bramley apple, blackcurrant and cherry crumble, which come served with lashings of hot creamy custard or local ice cream.
In the bar area there are plenty of comfy chairs to relax in, with a healthy bar stocked up on local hand-pulled ale or cider. Cocktail classics include a fruity French Martini, almondy Cuban Mai Tai, and a taste of Havana with a raspberry, strawberry or passion fruit Mojito.
