Five miles from Stratford-upon-Avon, Ettington Park is a magnificent Victorian-Gothic mansion with 40 acres of landscaped gardens. The Oak Room makes a fine evening-only restaurant, its original features including panelling embossed with family crests & a Rococo ceiling, not to mention soothing views across the garden to the family chapel (now a private dining room). In contrast to the setting, the cooking is modern with global influences: brandade of salt cod with teriyaki langoustine & garlic crisps, for example, or mains such as trio of Scottish beef with truffle mash, bearnaise sauce & grilled cherry tomatoes, & baked fillet of red mullet with a tower of Mediterranean vegetables, olive oil & sweet potatoes.
