The guys behind The Longroom in Smithfield have moved north and taken over this traditional Islington boozer, which has been re-launched following a minor refit. Hand-stretched, parmesan-crusted, stone-baked pizzas are now the mainstays of the menu, with a range of toppings spanning everything from NYC hot (peperoni, meatballs, green jalapeños and roasted red onion) to a dolcelatte, pear and walnut ‘skinny’ scattered with pea shoots. The Longroom’s famous salt beef also turns up as a pizza topping (with gherkins and mustard sauce), or you can have the stuff simply piled onto sourdough from Gail’s Bakery. Burgers, flatiron steaks, mac ‘n’ cheese, salads and puds such as salted caramel tart complete the offer, while drinks include draught beers, ample wines by the glass or carafe and some appropriate cocktails – how about a salt beef bloody Mary?
