The Moorings Hotel is home to one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Scottish Highlands, located in Fort William. This bistro serves a good selection of meals using locally sourced and seasonal produce, with the addition of a great children's menu. The restaurant is proud to serve freshly prepared home cooked dishes between the hours of 5 and 9pm, and designed by the well experienced head chef and his kitchen team. The bistro has a relaxed feel to it, which makes it great for catching up with friends, but with its solid menu, it can also be a good spot for wowing dates and hosting working lunches.
Starters include classics such as a homemade soup of the day with rustic bloomer bread, along with traditional haggis fritters in crispy batter with whisky cream sauce and the oak smoked Lochaber salmon with keta caviar dressing and oat cakes. It's a similar situation with the mains, plenty of classics mixed with some unusual flavours. There's the beer battered Atlantic haddock with chunky chips, a seasonal salad, lemon and tartare sauce, along with the Highland ribeye steak with grilled tomato, mushrooms and a whiskey and peppercorn sauce, plus the roast Mediterranean vegetable linguine with vegan parmesan and garlic bread.
If you find yourself in this bistro on a cold winter's day, try the hearty steak and Guinness pie or slow roasted pork belly. For something sweet, try the Moorings own sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla bean ice cream, the berry and apple crumble with hot custard, or a West Coast selection of artisan Scottish cheese with oat biscuits, chunky apple chutney and fresh grapes.
