In an era where several big-name restaurant groups have faced closures, The Ivy Collection, which is aimed slightly higher than your average high-street chain, appears to be unstoppable. Since restaurant tycoon Richard Caring decided to roll out the brand away from its original (and legendary) Covent Garden site, the brand has gone on to open more than 30 locations around the UK, and has now bagged a prime spot in Victoria.
Replacing what was once a branch of Jamie’s Italian (a casualty of the casual dining downturn), The Ivy Victoria is an all-day restaurant and bar which stretches itself across two floors, with room for almost 300 guests. The space has been designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, which is also responsible for private members club Annabels in Mayfair and The Coral Room at The Bloomsbury Hotel.
It’s a luxuriously appointed space, following the The Ivy Collection’s signature jewel-box interiors that feature bold fabrics, cosy banquettes and soft furnishings, but the space sets itself apart from the rest of the portfolio with artwork that is inspired by nearby landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Victoria Station and the West End.
The Ivy Victoria is also home to a bar on the first floor, which benefits from a balcony space and a calendar of DJs and live entertainment – there’s another terrace on the ground floor, armed with heaters for the colder months. As for the restaurant’s menu, you can expect an expansive offering which takes in a number of British classics alongside internationally inspired dishes.
Choose from the likes of white onion soup topped with onion Lyonnaise and truffle mascarpone and served with toasted brioche, or tuck into lemon sole on the bone with beurre noisette, lemon, capers and parsley. Sweet-toothed diners meanwhile, can round off their meal with a helping of chocolate brownie served with a scoop of malted banana ice cream.
As always with The Ivy Collection, you can also expect a wide range of wines, cocktails and Champagnes, as well as switched-on service from smart staff. For special occasions, The Ivy Victoria boasts an intimate private dining room which is available for hire.
