The Italo's is an all-day dining restaurant in Angel, London, which prides itself on its versatile take across authentic Italian cuisine. Positioned as a mix between a charming Venetian cicchetti bar, and a modern bistro, the restaurant brings ambience with rustic decor details such as exposed brick walls and an illuminated bar with fun, novelty signs.
The menu is packed full of classic, hearty Italian fare. The pair are enthusiastic not only about pizzas, but also about pinsas and have created a carefully considered selection of both. Not familiar with a pinsa? A mix between a pizza base and focaccia bread, a pinsa has a rectangular base and unique texture. Across the specialist menu, you'll find toppings such as mozzarella, Guanciale Sorrentino, Pecorino Romano DOP and free range soft eggs for the Carbonara, as well as organic tomatoes, wild rocket, Burrata DOP cheese ball, Prosciutto Crudo di Parma DOP, grated Grana Padano DOP and fresh basil, described as the Crudo e Burrata DOP.
The main menu starts with a selection of appetisers, inviting guests to choose between the likes of fresh burrata with pesto genovese and roasted cherry tomatoes, Scottish smoked salmon on rocket salad with slices of toasted bread, and deep fried fresh squid with garlic aioli and lemon.
Moving on, and diners will find an array of satisfying main dishes including sumptuous pastas - we like the sound of the Tagliolini al Nero di Seppia which comes with squid ink, butterfly shrimps, courgettes, cream and saffron. Or, choose something like the marinated chicken flame-grilled on a lava charcoal grill with skinny fried chips and The Italo’s sauce, for a classic main course option.
Desserts are described as 'how to end beautifully' which feels poetically fitting and includes a fabulous spread from sweet pinsa with nutella and chopped pistachio to Fiordilatte strawberry caramel in a glass.
