The Highwayman, Berkhamsted is a modern and inviting pub and brasserie serving a seasonal a la carte menu inspired by French and English cuisine. The Highwayman is part of Raymond Blanc’s White Brasserie Company Group and is located just off the High Street in Berkhamsted.
The seasonal menu features lots of delicious sounding dishes with starters such as chicken liver parfait served with truffle butter and toasted brioche, and Mediterranean fish soup served with gruyere cheese croutons. Main courses sound equally as tempting with their beef bourguignon served with smooth mash, and roasted halibut served with a champagne sauce. Other fish dishes include grilled Loch Fyne salmon fillet served with a tomato hollandaise, and grilled squid served with chilli, ginger and lime.
You will also find a good selection of 30-day matured, grass fed British steaks such as the 8oz sirloin served with your choice of sauce, steak-frites, and a special chateaubriand for two. There are plenty of sides to accompany your meal, such as sweet potato fries, buttered greens and mixed leaf salads.
Desserts include a pistachio souffle served with rich chocolate ice cream, and traditional favourites such as sticky toffee pudding, and rhubarb crumble.
There is a separate children’s menu, plus a junior menu, which features many of the main restaurant dishes simply served in smaller portions.
You will find a good, varied wine list, plus plenty of beers, ciders and spirits available. There is a large choice of gin, plus cocktails, mocktails, tea and coffee. You can also choose to finish your meal with fresh coffee and a trio of truffles, or perhaps you may opt for an espresso martini made with Ketel one vodka, Tia Maria and espresso.
If you’re heading to the Highwayman for Sunday lunch you will be spoiled for choice, from roast Cornish beef served with all the trimmings, to sirloin of outdoor reared pork served with apple fritter and green apple sauce, plus plenty of non-roast options if you’re looking for a light bite.
