SquareMeal Review of The Grill at the Dickens Inn

Dating back to the beginning of the 18th century, this old brick and timber warehouse was originally used for storing tea and may have also been a brewery. Back in the 1970s it was relocated and reconfigured, moving from a sawdust-strewn drinking den to a sprawling complex comprising a bar, function suite, a family-friendly pizzeria and this timber-framed grill festooned with old dockland artefacts. Steaks, gammon, chicken and burgers all get the treatment, but the menu also features a host of international favourites ranging from baked Camembert, blackened Cajun salmon and pork belly with bubble and squeak to Caesar salad and puds such as New York cheesecake. Steak club sandwiches are favourite fill-up at lunchtime, and there are traditional roasts on Sundays.

We have been going to the Dickens for a few years, never thought to write a review before, but the staff are still very helpful. Great pint in the bar before heading up stairs for a decent steak, good value for the location – no many places you can watch the boats and see Tower Bridge during dinner!

I had dinner with my Girlfriends the other night we just loved it! Staff very friendly and the atmosphere … amazing! Ceilings are really high, lovely decorated and the view of the dock is great! I had the Mixed Grill and I really liked it and my friends had the fish and chips! really good value for the size of fish! Would def go back and recommend it to everyone!

WASTE OF MONEY :The Dickens Inn- The Grill St Katherine’s Dock, London: Please visit me if you enjoy steak that looks & tastes like Road Kill (for £18), and sour faced waitresses acting like they’ve been slapped by a wet fish, who grunt and slam food down in front of you, and when you complain about the food, take the food to the kitchen and inform you that chef said that was how you asked it to be cooked! Got to love English customer service.
