A little Pub history
The inn was open for business during the First and Second World Wars, and is reputed to have been a haven for German prisoners of war. The soldiers, who were held half a mile away at the Costain compound, used to sneak to the inn where they enjoyed a few drinks before heading back to their camp.
Make a day of it
With its huge gardens is a 'drive-out' destination to be enjoyed by the whole family. We are a real country pub in the traditional Essex weatherboard style, tucked away down a quiet lane.
