The Great House is a stunning Grade II listed building in Bridgend, that has been wonderfully restored over the past few decades to preserve its original charm. This magnificent 15th century house is believed to have been a gift from HRH Queen Elizabeth I to the Earl of Leicester, and has been recently acquired by Sanjeev Bhagotra and Elinor Roberts, where the building now serves as a flourishing hotel, wedding venue, and has an award winning restaurant.
Making use of all four seasons, when they change, The Great House Hotel embraces them with open arms. In spring, there is dining in the garden, whilst summer offers afternoon tea on the patio, and autumn and winter are perfect for enjoying a cosy meal by the fireplace.
In the restaurant, you can be delighted by a selection of wonderful dishes on the tasting menu which are perfect to celebrate a special occasion. For something suited to leisurely weekends, the afternoon tea includes delicious sandwiches, freshly baked cakes and scones, fair trade coffees and freshly brewed teas in the charming lounge or landscaped gardens, all made by loving bakers. You will also enjoy a selection of cakes including a mini citrus meringue pie, red velvet cookie sandwich, lamington and salted caramel eclair. Your sandwiches may include coronation chicken fillings, goat's cheese and pesto or white bean, spring onion and cherry tomato.
Vegans can still enjoy the afternoon tea, and enjoy a menu of fresh baked scones with raspberry and violet gin jam, with a whipped oat fraiche. Following that, there are rich brownies with raspberry and cinder toffee, and coconut panna cottas with lime gel, mango and mint salsa. You'll also enjoy baklava cigars with toasted pistachio and orange, and falafel with harissa tahini, a quinoa salad with avocado dressing and a selection of open sandwiches and wraps.
