Tucked away in the Surrey countryside just a six minute drive from Woking station, The Gosling is a modern European restaurant and bar serving lunch and dinner. Having undergone a recent renovation with stylish new interiors designed by Studio Vitor, the space comprises a marble bar area, with eclectic tiles and low level sofas perfect for a pre-dinner cocktail, a snug, and a private dining room. The 75 cover dining room features red velvet banquette seating, bespoke art, and chrome lighting fixtures for an elegant yet relaxed ambience, and there is also a garden area for al fresco dining and drinks in the summer.
With executive chef Mark Wadsworth at the helm, the menu champions British produce, executed with precise presentation. Starters include light plates like rock oysters and shallot vinegar, lobster crumpet with beurre noisette, miso and chives, and ham hock terrine with balsamic beetroots, puffed crackling, watercress and goats curd.
For the main event, dive into fish and meat delights like pan roasted cod with lobster dumpling, baby spinach, ginger and lobster butter, or wild venison haunch with smoked celeriac, cep, purple kale, blackberries and venison crumble, with vegetarian options including stuffed kuri squash with pearl barley, stracciatella, confit garlic and spicy breadcrumbs. If you can’t decide, there are several sharing platters on offer such as a chateaubriand which comes with house chips, bearnaise, charred broccoli and dressed mustard leaf or whole turbot with confit garlic sauce, charred lemon and crispy potatoes.
To accompany your meal, or if you’re just stopping by for a drink, there is an extensive international wine list with over 150 bins of affordable bottles, revered vintages and everything in between, with a dedicated ‘by the glass’ section. There is also a particularly impressive range of Champagne, dessert wine and port, so whatever your tastes you’re covered.
