The Foxglove is in Kirkburton, a small village in West Yorkshire that has existed since the Iron Age. It was built in 1868 and called The Railway Junction in the hopes that the village would become a stop on an extended train line to Barnsley, but this never happened. The interior bears all the hallmarks of a traditional British pub, such as wooden beams throughout, open fires and deep leather armchairs.
The food menu is broad. Starters include duck and orange parfait, salt and pepper calamari, and slow-roasted tomato arancini. To share, there’s a honey-baked Camembert served with apricot and ginger chutney.
Mains are either pub classics, burgers or pizzas. If you want the former, you can choose from the likes of sausages and mash, pie of the day, duo of lamb or aubergine parmigiana. In addition, there’s two steaks on offer: a 10oz rib-eye or an 8oz sirloin.
Burgers are either beef (topped with brisket and bacon), chicken (buttermilk fried with chipotle jam) or vegetarian (butternut squash and chickpea patty). All come with skin on fries, a gherkin and a burger sauce dip. Pizzas range from the classic (margherita or pepperoni) to the more adventurous (sticky duck with a hoisin and tomato base).
On Sundays there’s a roast. Meat options are sirloin of beef, turkey breast, belly pork or lamb rump. For vegetarians, there’s a candied vegetable roast. All roasts are served with roast potatoes, vegetables and unlimited gravy.
The Foxglove is part of Vintage Inns, a 186 strong network of pubs. These are all dog-friendly and many can be booked for Christmas dinner. They all also take pride in showcasing regional ales, as well offering a wide range of wines, spirits and cocktails.
