For hundreds of years, The Eight Bells has been at the heart of Jevington, a picturesque village in the South Downs, just outside Eastbourne. This small, independently owned free house has a rich history, welcoming bar, landscaped gardens with the best views around and a string of accolades to its name.
The kitchen team is passionate about serving locally sourced and seasonal produce wherever it can. It's forged strong connections with local farmers and producers, many of which boast some of the country's best wines, beers and cheeses. For that reason, you won't find things like olives or avocados on its menus, simply because they aren't produced locally. Instead, tuck into the delicacies that East Sussex is known for and come from the surrounding farms and producers. The Eight Bells also keeps close tabs on its food miles, packaging and landfill, harvests rainwater for its garden, and composts as much as it can.
The food offering is kept deliberately diverse to cater to different occasions, times of the day and tastes. If you're in the mood for a two or three course meal, there's plenty to choose from between the range of starters, lunches and dinners. The team also bring their gourmet flair to pub classics and serve a pie of the week, in case you're in need of some comfort food. Plant-based, gluten-free and dairy-free choices are also available, and dishes can be tailored to suit your dietary needs.
As for drinks, mixers, juices and pressés come from the neighbours at Folkington’s and teas are sourced from independent specialist Joe’s Teas. You can also expect a well-curated wine list as well as a few choice cocktails.
The Eight Bells also caters for private events. Simply get in touch with the team to discuss.
