The Light at Towner, a Scandinavian-inspired restaurant, has brought a brand new way of eating to Eastbourne. The restaurant can be found on the second floor at Towner Eastbourne, a purpose-built, Turner Prize-hosting gallery, located in the heart of Eastbourne’s Devonshire Quarter. Light makes the most of the building’s towering ceilings and skyline views with a sun-filled restaurant and roof terrace.
For breakfast, you can choose from a variety of trusty staples such as eggs and bacon, or mushrooms on sourdough toast. However, you could also try cardamom muesli, wholegrain crêpes or rose harissa haricot beans. There are also a variety of ‘sunrisers’ to choose from, whether that’s a Bloody Mary or a Cornflake Milk Punch.
A visit isn’t complete without trying smørrebrød, an open sandwich served on rye bread. From classics such as pickled herring served with eggs, samphire and sour cream, to charred plums served with whipped feta and toasted almonds, there’s something for everyone. There are also a variety of smaller and larger plates available at lunchtime from crudites or chicken & leek terrine to charred hispi cabbage or grilled butterfly mackerel. If you’re looking for an afternoon tea, Light serves a classic cream tea along with a taster of smørrebrød and a trio of desserts.
From Thursday to Saturday you can enjoy evening menus, with last bookings taken at 8pm. You can choose from a pre-theatre set menu, a four or five course tasting menu or simply pick your favourites from the evening menu.
The restaurant hosts a Jazz Late every first Friday of the month and takes bookings for private events, which include exclusive access to Towner’s exhibitions.
