The East Hill has become an oasis for the slightly underserved, but comfortably off folk of The Tonsleys. It bears all the hallmarks of the Geronimo brand (now owned by Young’s): a big bar serving 20- to 40-somethings with pints of real ale, as well as decent wine by the glass; assorted mismatched tables, armchairs & sofas; knick-knacks & an odd collection of books on shelves around the walls. It’s a likeable arrangement, & presuming the kitchen’s not too busy, the food cuts the mustard, too. The menu isn’t especially taxing for diners or chef, encompassing pub grub such as fish & chips or steak & chips alongside more dinner-party meals of duck breast with pomegranate & bitter leaves, or potted crab with pickled cucumber.
