The Creameries in Chorlton is a new neighbourhood venture from former Aumbry owner and chef Mary Ellen McTague and baker Sophie Yeoman. The former Edwardian bakery offers seasonal breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, which include freshly baked pastries and breads, home-cured wild meats, homemade butter, and an inspired range of cheeses.
The breakfast menu features sourdough buns, daily-changing cakes and pies, while the supper menu includes the likes of whole roast wood pigeon, beetroot and rainbow chard served with the roasting juices, or Dorset clams with cider, burnt butter and wild garlic. Everything is sustainably sourced, with as little waste as possible.
It’s a comfortable space, and well-suited to families with a corner dedicated to keeping young diners entertained. A well-considered children's menu is short and changes frequently, with an emphasis on fresh, wholesome produce. Children are also welcome to order a small portion of anything from the adult’s menu, and the chefs will try to accommodate special requests.
The wine list is distinctive, ethical and interesting, showcasing natural and low intervention wines, while beers have been chosen to pair well with the bread, cheese and snacks on offer. A neighbourhood gem.
