Sitting smack bang in the middle of Coventry, just a stone's throw from the cathedral and the city centre, The Botanist is a bar and restaurant that specialises in botanical cocktails and easy-going international food. This is somewhere you can come at all times of day, as the restaurant serves lunch and dinner through-out the week as well as packing out a popular bottomless brunch on the weekends and serving a Sunday roast as well.
A swathe of large houseplants and terracotta pots cover the chic interiors, and there are lots of tables and chairs in the enormous dining room, all sitting under a cavernous arched ceiling. A large bar dominates the centre of the room, and there are also stairs upto a mezzanine area that looks over the rest of the room. The Botanist also has a lovely outdoor terrace area which proves popular in the summer months.
There are a variety of menus for different occasions and times of day. The standard food menu is available everyday at lunch and dinner and includes accessible international dishes. Snacks are perfect if you want a bite to eat with a drink, and include salt and pepper chicken wings, crispy polenta mushrooms, and gambas pil pil, whilst the mains are a little heartier, including dishes such as chicken, lamb or pork kebabs, burgers, salads and pies. Vegans and vegetarians are also covered on the menu, via dishes such as a vegan katsu curry, vegan meatball kebab or plant-based burger.
Though The Botanist offers an extensive drinks list, cocktails are by far the most popular choice here. Innovative house mixes are split up by the botanicals they use - flowers, fruits or roots and shoots, and include drinks like the Lily Pad Sour (Portobello Road Bergamot Citrus Vodka, green melon liqueur, Green Chartreuse, apple juice and foam).
