Having recently moved to the area and walked past The Bickley every day upon exiting the train station on my daily commute, I was intrigued to see The Bickley's renovation.
Last time I was there the food was very over priced, lacked substance and calibre and the decoration…one word gaudy. Having had a quick look at the menu beforehand, my husband, I and my young daughter went there to try it out. The renovation is a definite improvement. The outside space is neutral and homely, whilst I loved the candlesticks and the grandeur of decoration inside of the pub. My daughter chose the pizza from the kid's menu, margherita pizza but after a few tears we asked our waitress if pepperoni could be added and were delighted that this was done for her. My husband and I shared the seafood platter which include a pate, whitebait, anchovies, smoked salmon and cajun spiced calamari all of which were define, followed by the Bickley burger for my husband whilst I went for the classic chicken caesar salad with fries. The portions were generous, the food was lovely and fresh, the staff (if a little outnumbered for the amount of patrons) were great and the ambience was good. This is a pub that my husband and I will be venturing to again very soon!
