Situated on the edge of the stunning Longleat Estate in Wiltshire, The Bath Arms is a charming country inn serving refined pub classics and an excellent selection of drinks. Established in 1736, this historic destination is a member of the Beckford Group, famed for providing outstanding hospitality across the South West. Upon entering you’ll be greeted by a rustic yet stylish interior complete with original wooden beams, a roaring fireplace, 18th century mirrors, and an eclectic collection of rugs and art. There is a courtyard at the back filled with lush greenery and patio furniture perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying a tipple in the sunshine.
Sustainability is core to The Bath Arms’ ethos, so all the meat and game is sourced from local farms, with fish landed on the south coast, resulting in a frequently changing seasonal menu. Expect classic British cuisine with a touch of modern European influence, plus plenty of pub classics.
Start with nibbles like baked camembert with cranberry compote and toast, or charred padron peppers with smoked salt before digging into starters like game terrine with smoked bacon, spiced plum chutney, pistachio and sourdough, or chilli fried prawns with heritage carrots, Thai green sauce and lemon gel.
Mains are kept hearty and satisfying such as the wild venison burger with redcurrant jelly, pickles, gochujang mayo and rosemary fries, with lighter options including pan fried sea bream with saffron braised fennel, sauerkraut, celeriac, confit kohlrabi and blackberries. Crucially, you must save room for dessert at The Bath Arms with delights like chocolate and kirsch cherry trifle featuring, as well as a selection of British cheeses if you’ve not much of a sweet tooth.
To accompany your meal, there is an extensive wine list showcasing both old and new world wines, with availability by the glass and carafe. All the wine is sourced from their very own merchant The Beckford Bottle Shop in Bath, just thirty minutes away. There are also local ales and beers, including the in-house creation the Horning Ale.
