The Bank Tavern is a small pub that has stood proudly since the 1800s. The pub can be found just outside away from the city centre, and is an independent free house that stocks an excellent selection of ciders, lagers and delicious award winning ales. Whether you want to enjoy your drink outdoors or tuck yourself away in a cosy corner whilst eating a Sunday roast, The Bank Tavern has plenty to offer.
The menu changes with the seasons, and is relatively simple, but much finer than your traditional pub grub. Starters include short rib tacos with charred corn salsa and lime mayo, the fried sushi rice with gochujang mayo and chilli cucumber salad, and pork dumplings with crispy chilli oil and garlic soy. Lighter lunch dishes are served with homemade fries and a leaf salad, and include the roast chicken club sandwich with smoked streaky bacon and dijon mayonnaise and a dry aged beef burger. The main dishes include fettuccine with king prawns, fennel and white wine sauce and pangritata, and a bowl of panko tofu with katsu sauce, black rice noodles and a ginger pickled salad.
Sundays begin with starters of duck breast served with kohlrabi, pickled radish, pistachio and raspberry vinaigrette, and the tikka cod with a shallot pakora and mango chutney. All roasts are served with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnip puree, creamy leeks, cider and balsamic braised shallots, seasonal vegetables and a jug of gravy. You can take your pick from a 30 day dry aged rare topside of beef, braised free range pork belly and vegetable and lentil loaf. For dessert try the leche frita with honey ice cream and oatmeal shortbread, or a warming spiced plum crumble with vegan vanilla ice cream.
