The Airds Hotel and its pretty restaurant are rural, but on the social radar: Stella McCartney honeymooned here, and no doubt lapped up the venue’s terrific views of the west Highlands during her sojourn. Good food is another lure for visitors, with a year-round harvest of prime local ingredients used to good effect for “beautifully presented” menus with a strong seasonal slant. To start, there might be shellfish bisque with a crab spring roll or ballottine of rabbit with quince jelly and plum chutney, while mains could range from mandarin-glazed duck breast with crispy leg and wild rice or truffle-stuffed chicken with white bean purée to pan-seared Wester Ross salmon with smoked mussel tortellini, courgettes and hollandaise. After that, consider toffee apple soufflé with caramel sauce and almond ice cream or a clever dessert involving Scottish strawberries. The wine list oozes class, while service is gracious, exact and charming.
